Computer Errors: Causes
There can be many causes of computer errors. If your computer is frequented by a particular type of error message, you must try to look for its resolution over the Internet. Some of the common causes of computer errors are:
- Malfunctioning hardware and defective cables.
- Bad device drivers.
- Software problems, such as missing program files or components.
- Program or hardware conflicts.
- Hard disk problems, registry errors and malware infections.
Computer Errors: Examples
Most of the time, if the error occurs due to a known condition, you may be able to easily find its solution over the Internet. To understand this, let’s go over a couple of common computer errors and their resolution methods.
Ntdll.dll Error
The following Ntdll.dll error messages may be displayed on your system when one or more of the following conditions are true:
- Your Windows installation is faulty.
- The data cable of your hard disk is defective.
- There are buggy or obsolete driver files on the computer.
STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard errorC:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll (or another specific file or driver)
STOP: C0000221 Unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll
STOP: 0xC0000221 STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCHPath\File_name
STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error Path\File_name
If the error starts displaying soon after you have installed Windows, it might indicate a faulty Windows installation. In this case, assure the following and then try to reinstall Windows:
- The CD from which you are performing the installation is not damaged or scratched.
- The operating system files that you have with you are genuine.
If the error follows a driver update or installation, this new update or driver could be buggy. To resolve the issue in this case, use the Device Manager, to either uninstall the new driver or remove the driver update and rollback to the older driver.
If these two methods fail to fix the error, then a faulty hard disk cable might be the most probable cause. Try to swap the cable of your hard disk with your CD-drive. If the problem disappears, then replace the defective hard disk cable with a new, functional cable.
Msoe.dll Error
When working with Microsoft Outlook Express, you may receive an error message similar to the one given below, due to one of the following two conditions:
- Address Book file is missing from the system. This file has a .WAB extension.
- You have two different versions of Outlook Express installed on the system.
“Outlook Express could not be started because Msoe.dll could not be loaded"
If the error is caused due to a missing Address Book file, then you can easily resolve it by reinstalling the Address Book Windows component from the Add or Remove Programs utility. If two versions of Outlook Express exist on the system, then first completely remove both the installations, and then reinstall the version you want to maintain on the system.
Computer errors may also occur on a system that is infected by malware, or that has a damaged registry or hard disk. To resolve and prevent problems due to these, you must regularly perform the following tasks on your computer:
- Regularly scan your system using updated antivirus and antispyware tools to ensure that your system is free from malicious programs, such as virus, Trojans, spyware, and adware.
- Use a registry cleaner tool to regularly scan and clean your registry, defrag its files, and back it up to ensure that you can restore the registry if it encounters an irreparable error.
- Use the Disk Cleanup tool to easily get rid of all junk and obsolete files, uninstall unwanted programs, and remove outdated system restore points from your system.
- Consolidate the fragmented files and folders on the hard disk, and optimize it for better, faster, and error-free performance.
