Search engines rank websites based upon complex algorithms to determine a webpage's importance on the internet. A webpage with a high ranking will appear closer to the top of search results when using a search engine such as Google, Yahoo, or MSN. Getting a high page rank for your individual webpages and your overall website is important since the higher up in the rankings you appear, the more likely that someone will click the link to your website, thus generating traffic.
When launching your website, one of your goals should be to generate as many one-way links to your website as possible. If you're the member of an group such as a chamber of commerce or a professional organization, ask them to link to your website.
Reciprocal links are links that are placed on someone else's website in return for you placing a link on your website back to theirs. Reciprocal links are not as effective as one-way links, but are still effective nonetheless. Stay away from websites that are just link farms.
The more content that your website has, the better chance it has of getting noticed. Try to make as much original content as possible - search engines don't like duplicate content. Also, make sure that your content is "readable" to the search engines - content in text format is more valuable than an image.
Even if the search engines can find your website, they may not be able to properly index it. Apheus designs all of its websites with SEO (Search Engine Optimization) in mind. Just remember - no company can guarantee top placement on the search engines! |
